Tap Yourself to Emotional Wellbeing

Got an underlying emotional issue that you want to deal with but don’t know how?

Do you often get anxious, nervous or angry about certain situations, or have a phobia or an annoying habit that you want to deal with?

Have you tried LOTS of things and nothing seems to have worked?

Then maybe you need to check out Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as The Tapping Technique. It’s fantastic for dealing with emotional stuff and in helping people to overcome any emotional barriers they may be experiencing in their life. It has been used successfully by thousands of people for treating everything from emotional eating though to dealing with a tragic loss. Sometimes people don’t even know why they feel a certain way or what’s causing it, EFT is great for this too! It’s also very effective in treating physical symptoms too, especially pain.

So what is EFT?

EFT is based on the theory that all negative emotions cause a disruption in the body’s energy system. These negative emotions can build up and eventually manifest into a physical symptom such as pain. It uses a technique called ‘psychological acupressure’ which is when the therapist taps on specific meridian (energy) points on the body whilst simultaneously using cognitive language to help the person focus on the issue that they want to resolve. There are 9 main meridian points that are used during the whole sequence.

How does EFT work?

During an EFT session, the therapist will ask the person to repeat a series of statements which hone in on the issue or pain point that is troubling them and they will do this whilst tapping on the various points. For example, if a person feels anxious, then they might say something like “Even though I feel anxious, I deeply love and accept myself”. They will then repeat various different statements similar to the first, still focusing on the anxiety, but also adding a positive action to it so that the person can address how they feel. This helps to neutralise any judgement that the person has about the problem and allow them to really feel the emotion that they are experiencing around the specific issue.

By tapping on the meridians really helps to restore energy and bring the body back into balance, whilst also making a positive change in the person’s thought pattern and state of mind.

How to do EFT

Once you learn the technique, it is very easy to administer on yourself and it’s certainly something you can use anywhere and at any time. Here’s a short video clip by Jessica Ortner from The Tapping Solution which demonstrates how easy EFT is to do.
