Tasty Houmous Recipe

Houmous is definitely one of my favourite things to eat – it’s super easy to make and tastes amazing! Houmous also provides a great source of protein because it contains chickpeas and tahini (ground sesame seeds). The other great thing about houmous is that it has garlic in it which is fantastic for colds, sinusitis, hay fever, bronchitis, high blood pressure, thrush and elevated cholesterol due to its antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant and hypotensive properties.

Here’s my Houmous Recipe

  • 600g dried or 2 cans of chickpeas, drained, rinsed (if dried – make sure that you soak and cook them properly first)
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 100ml olive oil
  • 2 tbs tahini paste
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

  • Place the chickpeas, garlic, olive oil, tahini paste, cumin and lemon juice in a food processor and process until combined.
  • Add 1/4 cup (60ml) of water and process again until quite smooth.
  • Serve with veggie sticks – cucumber, capsicum (pepper), carrots and broccoli are all very tasty and provide lots of nutrients!
