Pesto that helps you Detox!

This Coriander Pesto recipe is fantastic for cleansing and detoxification, especially for binding up and chelating heavy metals out of the body. Coriander (also know as Cilantro) is a herb that contains plenty of nutrients including potassium, calcium, manganese, iron, magnesium, B vitamins, vitamins A, C and K plus lots of antioxidants. The other great thing about Coriander is that it tastes amazing too!

This pesto also contains garlic, another powerful detox herb that contains high amounts of sulfur. Sulfur is a mineral that helps your liver to detox heavy metals and chemicals; it also assists with cell regeneration, so it helps our bodies to heal effectively. The other main detox ingredient in this recipe is Brazil nuts which are high in the trace mineral selenium. Selenium is also an antioxidant that helps to produce an enzyme called glutathione peroxidase; this enzyme neutralizes free radicals which is super important when your body is going through a detoxification process. 

So here’s the recipe..

Coriander Pesto Recipe


  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/3 cup Brazil nuts
  • 1/3 cup sesame seeds
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 2 cups fresh coriander
  • 2/3 cup flax seed oil or olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons lemon or lime juice
  • Pinch of sea salt to taste


  • Blend all the ingredients into a paste in a food processor or blender – it’s that easy!
  • It’s best to store the pesto in a dark glass jar if possible, just so that the oil doesn’t oxidise and go rancid. If you don’t have one, then any container will do but ensure that you store it away from direct sunlight.
