What makes you really happy?

Doing things that we love to do, being places that make us feel fantastic and surrounding ourselves with people that inspire us and make us happy are key to feeling fulfilled, energised and being the people that we want to be. It is so easy to get caught up in the stresses of life and forget to do these special things that make us feel great and make life worth living for, because if we don’t what’s the point hey! We can quickly get into a rut and feel depressed which can often lead to a downward spiral and to a place where we don’t want to be!

I recently was in that place and believe me, it wasn’t a good place to be! I was doing a job that I didn’t want to do so much so that I would dread going to work, I had no time (or made no time) for exercise, I withdrew myself socially, my libido vanished, I felt bleak every day for no reason and I could not see the wood from the trees, so to speak. Sometimes we find ourselves in these situations and we think that there is no way out but there is ALWAYS a way out and all we have to do is make a decision and take some action. The universe will do whatever it can to assist us in getting to where we need to be but it will only do so if we take the responsibility to ask and create the intention.

I had become so focused on working hard and trying to forge this career and business in something that wasn’t going to make me happy because I felt that it was what I was supposed to do, that I had stopped living life, having fun and doing things that actually made me happy! I eventually snapped out of my depressive state and decided to commit to doing something every day that makes me happy and feel good. Things that I had been procrastinating about, I decided to take action and do – so I went to the dance class that I had been talking myself out of for god knows how long, I booked in for an EFT session (check out the post here), I handed in my notice, I started to do something that I was passionate about (writing), and I started socialising again. Sometimes I had to force myself and believe me it isn’t easy to get motivated when you feel like that, but it is SO worth it!

One of the ways to help get you connected to yourself and your passions again is to start doing things that make you feel good. No matter how small or how big the thing may be, just acknowledge it and start to bring it into your daily routine. Get a pen and paper and start making a list of all the things that make you happy.

I have put together a list of my top 10 and even just thinking about doing these things brought a smile to my face!

So here you go…

  1. Sunflowers always brighten up my day – these bright, beautiful yellow flowers can always make me smile.
  2. Cacao Superfood Smoothies – I have one every morning and it always sets me up for the day (here is the recipe).
  3. The beach – feeling the sand beneath my toes, seeing the waves crashing against the rocks and being able to breathe in that fresh ocean air can always relieve the stresses of the day.
  4. Funky house music – always brings back happy memories of being in Ibiza and dancing the night away.
  5. Family time – making dinner with my amazing partner whilst discussing the troubles of the day, cuddles with nieces and nephews, skyping my wonderful parents and long walks with the dogs. Special moments that make life worth living!
  6. Raw Food - going to my favourite raw food café and eating amazing ‘live’ scrumptious food that makes me feel super charged and rearing to go!
  7. Dancing - shaking my booty and getting my groove on is certainly therapy for my soul!
  8. Glorious sunshine always make me shine – I have no time for bleak days!
  9. Daily inspiration – I engage with people who make me feel pumped and motivated; I read daily blogs from people that inspire me; I make sure that I look at my Vision Board at least 5 times; I take notice of things and people around me as there is always something or someone that will inspire me if I take the time to notice it; I write down my daily affirmation and make sure that I keep saying it over and over again.
  10. Learning something new – I am a bit of a serial learner and no sooner have I learnt or studied one thing, I am onto the next! My motto is ‘Life if about experience – try as much as you can and do whatever you want to do if it is going to make you happy”

I would love to hear your top 10 so please feel free to share below.
