Did You Overindulge This Festive Period?

Firstly I would like to say – Happy New Year! Hope you had a fabulous Christmas and enjoyed some well-deserved time off with family and friends.

Secondly, I would like to apologise that I’ve been a bit quiet over the past few months – I got married in December and it was a very hectic month so there wasn’t much time for writing posts. But please be rest assured that 2015 is here and I’m back and rearing to go!

So, do you feel like you overindulged this festive period?

I know that I certainly did!

It’s quite hard not to when there is a constant array of Christmas parties, dinners at friends and chocolate EVERYWHERE!

Also, when we get to the end of the year, we usually think “oh sod it, I’ll start being good again in the New Year!”

So the new year is here, and for many people (including myself) it can be very hard to get started again, especially if you’ve piled on a few extra kilos!

There’s no easy way to start, but the thing is – you just need to START!

Stop putting it off until after that next catch-up with friends, or after next weekend, or whatever other excuse you keep telling yourself.

Here a few tips to get you started:

  • Stop beating yourself up for what you did or didn’t do over Christmas – all that negative energy is doing you no favours whatsoever! I didn’t go to yoga for a month (even though I paid for it) but hey, there’s no point in crying over spilt milk!
  • Start with setting yourself achievable daily goals – walk to work instead of catching the bus, make your own healthy lunch instead of grabbing a sandwich from the deli or swop your high-sugar muesli bar or biscuits for some yummy homemade bliss balls.
  • Don’t skip breakfast – lots of people think that they can cut calories by not eating any brekkie, however research shows that this is a surefire way to stack on the pounds! Have something light, healthy and nutritious such as a smoothie – here’s my  Super Smoothie recipe
  • Make time for daily exercise – you certainly don’t have to pay for expensive gym memberships, you just need to need to move your body every single day. Go for a brisk walk or get a skipping rope and do a few rounds in your living room. A great way to meet new people and get your buns moving is to join a local exercise-based Meetup group in your area – you can meet like-minded people and get to do lots of fun things which don’t feel like exercise at all!
  • Go grain-free for a few weeks and see how you feel - ditching bread, rice and pasta will make a massive difference to your waistline! Check out this post for some inspiration for grain-free foods ideas

There is simply no time like the present. Stop making excuses and start making positive changes today – your body will thank you for it!

Have a fantastic week and I hope that 2015 brings you plenty of fun, fortune and success in all areas of your life!
